Body signals that warn you that you have high blood sugar

Hyperglycemia is the medical term for excess glucose in the blood.

Hypoglycemia, on the other hand, is what is used for the opposite, low blood glucose levels.

Although both are common in both adults and children with diabetes, type 1 and 2, as well as in pregnant women with gestational diabetes, their symptoms can go unnoticed in healthy people.

In diabetics, it is easy to detect when glucose levels are not appropriate, especially because you are on notice, however, it is useful to know those 5 symptoms that precede them in order to take action if necessary, especially when there is no previous diagnosis of diabetes.

1 - One of the first symptoms to appear is dryness of the mucous membranes and an increase in the urge, frequency and amount of urine, which is usually accompanied by increased thirst, in an attempt by the body to avoid dehydration. The increase in the amount and frequency of urination is due to an overexertion of the body to eliminate the extra circulating glucose.

2 - This first symptom is usually accompanied by a weight loss difficult to explain, since it occurs in the absence of any increase in physical exercise or without following any diet, and without a loss of appetite, that is, eating the same thing.

3 - Weight loss is accompanied by a excessive tiredness, for no apparent reason. Because the body cannot assimilate glucose normally, it does not have food for the cells, which are limited in their functions, this being the source of fatigue. Also, by needing to obtain energy from other sources, it attacks body fat and muscle, and therein lies the weight loss.

4 - There is also an aIncrease in infections of all kinds, especially urine infections and candidiasis, as well as skin problems, fungi, dryness, eczema ... Depending on the age of the child, this may be one of the most difficult symptoms to observe, since, especially if they are children and go to kindergarten, infections are recurrent and therefore difficult to take out of context.

When they are older, in school age, they generally exercise a lot, so fatigue and weight loss are easily considered normal. Later in adolescence, these symptoms can also go unnoticed, especially in times when they are overworked or hormonal imbalances.

5 - Sometimes, although less frequently, it can also appear blurry vision, which, once ophthalmological problems have been ruled out, is a symptom to take into account and consult with the doctor.

IMPORTANT: It is convenient to observe the daily habits of our children very closely, since, depending on their age, they may not be able to see the changes. Although it seems extreme, if more than one of these symptoms is observed and no reason is found, it may be better to be cautious and consult a doctor than to let it pass.
