The Reggio Emilia methodology It is an educational proposal where it is argued that children can learn through observation and thus develop their creativity.
Loris Malaguzzi was the pedagogue who introduced this teaching system. He defends that the Regio Emilia method (it owes its name to the Italian people where it originated) is a philosophy that is carried out by people who are part of the daily life of the child, such as: parents, educators, and children. own children.
The Reggio Emilia philosophy is an experiential teaching method based on the commitment of all members in charge of the education of children where:
- The child will be the protagonist. There will be a new look at the child. It is assumed that all children have the potential and sufficient curiosity to build their learning. The little one will be the one who takes the initiative.
- The teacher is the one who guides. The role of the teacher will be to listen and productively accompany children in the exploration of topics, investigations and construction of learning.
- The importance of space. The organization, design and use of the space promotes the type of relationships that occur and communication. Therefore, each space will have its purpose, and is valued by children and adults. In addition, the natural environment is incorporated, as far as possible, in the activities since it constitutes a great tool for the development and understanding of the world around them.
- Family is important. Parents play an active role in children's learning experiences and help ensure the well-being of children in school.
- Document the experiences. As a way to make children's experiences visible, so that adults better understand the way children act, evaluate what is being worked on and as a way to share with other agents who act in the education of children.
The fundamental objective of this methodology, therefore, will be to create an active school, where research and reflection predominate, always within an appropriate environment that facilitates relations between the school and the family so that the well-being of the child is possible.
The schools that opt for this methodology lack educational programs and curricula. They seek learning by focusing on the child's certainties and curiosities, through a close teacher-student relationship that occurs in an environment of trust between both.
Learning will be based on acquiring experiences, so it is important that children feel motivated to work in groups to solve problems, play alone or share games in groups. To do this, they must provide a wide variety of tools and a space that is welcoming that encourages the right climate for learning.
To achieve this climate in the classrooms, the walls will be white to give a feeling of calm and decorated with objects created by the children themselves, parents and teachers. In each classroom at most 25 children and two educators.
